Until I feel funny again this is a gardening account
At first I thought planting something just because it shares a name with a Bruce Cockburn song was a bit puerile, but that was before I understood how pretty foxgloves are
It's hard to believe, but in a few days these strawberries will be larger than my reservoir of confidence
I'm glad with how these zinnia flowers turned out, considering I only planted them because their name reminded me of the Arabic word for adultery
I'm pleased to announce the official start of the gardening season
They're opening
I wish I planted more snowdrops
First daffodil of the year
Some two-leaf squill with a bit of cayenne pepper to keep the deer away
You plant the bulbs, you wait 7 months, then they all grow pointing away from your window
This spider found a good hiding spot
The deer ate my more colorful hyacinths, but this is still nice
The first tulip
I don't think I'll be able to bring myself to eat this bok choy
Fuchsia and verbena
A strawberry flower
In a bad New Jersey accent:
Calibrachoa? I barely now her!
Carnations
Looks pretty good for an ornamental onion
Looks like the chives I forgot to eat last year are about to flower
Always keep track of the cultivars you plant
Otherwise you'll end up like me—with the prettiest marigold you've ever seen in your life, but with no idea what it's call and the vague fear that you'll never see it again
Some salvia
It's the ornamental type not the hallucinogenic one
I swear
I'm so glad I don't have to tell my little sister that the dianthus she got me are dead
The last of the fall planted bulbs
Didn't believe in love at first sight until I saw this tree
Going to have to redo a bed to make room for it, but it'll be worth it
They say you should never trust someone with two first names, but Veronica Charlotte seems nice
Planning to divide these and give some to each of my neighbours just so I can say "a phlox on both your houses"
Some larkspur
The one plant I'm hoping the deer eat
Even if you've run out of gardening space there's always the stairs
I noticed after I planted this geranium in full sun that the tag said part shade
It's doing fine though
Those monarch butterflies better be grateful

I'm think just gonna let the strongest ones choke the others out
Tempted to move to the south just so I don't have to keep gardenias in containers
Ants are pollinators too
Had to cut these prematurely since they were leaning into my delphiniums, but you can hear more about that in my new movie with Ted Danson and Macaulay Culkin, Getting Even With Glad
The air fresheners companies are really leaving money on the table by not having any buddleia scented items
Added a tiny pond a few days ago and there are already a couple of frogs living in it
