Glad my remarks on language in the draft Education Policy triggered many responses, including from Hindi enthusiasts and Hindi baiters.
I am neither. Am opposed to English domination and Hindi imposition. Am for Indian languages.
This short thread is to begin a deeper debate.

English as a language is a window to world literature and knowledge, must be learnt by every child.
English as a medium of school instruction is a pedagogic disaster for most Indians, must be avoided.
English as passport to any decent job is class privilege, must be dismantled.

Hindi is not our national language; we don't need any.
Hindi is not one of our classical or old languages; we have many.
Hindi can serves as a bridge language, only if others find it useful.
Hindi promotion by Govt is counter-productive; leave it to Cinema, TV and cricket.

Focus of government policy should be preservation and promotion of multi-lingualism:
• Primary education in home language
• Every child can and must be taught 3-4 languages, incld English
• State language as medium of school education
• Dual medium for higher education
