I dunno who needs to hear this but, there's no reason for you to have one THOUSAND unread emails in your inbox, half of which are spam from 5 years ago.
take 10 mins a day to mass delete, unsubscribe, filter and respond as needed. consider it spring cleaning. you can do this.

let's start with bills. if you get an email every time you pay your cell bill ect. you can delete ALL those emails! free yourself. open one, copy the "from" address, do a search in your inbox for anything from that address and DELETE
next, do another search of the email address that's sending your bill receipts and set up a filter that sends them to a folder. name the folder whatever you want, like BILLS! the key is to set the filter to "skip inbox" and go straight to the folder instead.
next: FILTERS & FOLDERS. these are a GAME CHANGER. i love them so so much. the great thing about filters is they flag emails as they come into your inbox so at first glance you know what to respond to, delete or file.

next: unsubscribe and/or mark as spam. lots of email lists hide the usub link in tiiiiiiny print at the bottom of their long ass email. but if you can't be bothered to scroll gmail has you covered! you can usub right in the from line, or when you mark as spam
oh! folder naming pro-tip. folders are alphabetical so throw a special character at the front if you need to change the folder rank. hence why my WERK folder is *WERK and other folders have underscore. you can also do this on your desktop

this is a productivity tip but it'll help you blaze through emails: CANNED RESPONSE. it's a standard reply that can be plugged in with a click! i have responses w my measurements (for gigs), my flight details, & "meet my agent"

other emails to mass delete/file: flight details. again: open one email from jetblue/delta/AA/spirit (why the fuck are you still flying spirit? booo) copy & search the from email, mass delete/file accordingly. if you have a flight coming up, move to a travel deets folder!
i know some of ya'll feel attacked, BUT i hope you found this inbox cleaning thread helpful! i'm mostly self employed/juggle many jobs, so my inbox is always poppin, but keeping it under 20 unread emails at a time has been a HUGE stress/anxiety relief for me. you got this!
last thing. if you can function with thousands of unread emails, awesome! then this thread isn’t for you! but in the past i’ve missed important high paying gigs bc my inbox was a mess & i didn’t respond in time. that was enough for ME to get it together. the end.
