Cracking PM interviews: Just collating a couple of points from some conversations over the last few days
(thread)
(thread)
1. Don’t spray paint your applications and wait for luck by chance. Play to your strengths and see what value you can add to the company you’re applying to (a deck with what could be done better or how x can solve y if you have some time on hand)
2. Figure out the T shaped skills you need to get there. UI/UX/Data/Tech/Metrics/Comm/Growth/Business Acumen - it’s okay if it takes some time but it’s worth it.
3. Read a lot. Practice writing. Try grabbing a coffee (build relationships?) with the folks you want to work with.
4. Is an MBA a must for a PM role today? Maybe. Maybe not.

5. There is a lot of value you can gain just by talking to people who are around you and in your environment. Figure out their pain points and genuinely help if you can or connect them with someone you know who might be able to. Learn something new everyday.
6. And if you’re applying conventionally, please do make sure your resumes are updated and error-free. Do try answering a couple of questions about the roles/projects you mention: What’s the impact? Who were the stakeholders? What metric did you move?
Lastly, it’s a journey of continuous learning.

(General) When meeting a potential client/employer, rem to prepare in advance these 3 things:
- Know about what x does well?
- Research or find out during the convo: What are they missing?
- How do you think you could fill the gap?
Respect their time and they’ll remember you :)
