We are in a very dangerous place because we don't have laws requiring evidence-based elections. If Trump wins the 2020 election due to election fraud, how will we prove the fraud? If Trump legitimately loses but falsely accuses Ds of election fraud, how will we disprove it? 1/ https://twitter.com/tribelaw/status/1103432172680200193
/ The phrase "evidence-based elections" was coined by @philipbstark, who invented Risk Limiting Audits. https://www.nybooks.com/daily/2018/11/05/voting-machines-what-could-possibly-go-wrong/
/ Evidence-based elections are the only way to know if electronic election outcomes are legitimate. They require #HandMarkedPaperBallots plus robust manual audits plus a secure (perhaps videotaped) chain of custody between election night and the audit.
/ We don't require this or do this in the US. It's a terrifying reality as we barrel toward 2020.
/ It's why I wrote this article. I hope it helps move things toward evidence-based elections. https://medium.com/@jennycohn1/dear-media-it-is-irresponsible-to-continue-pretending-we-have-a-system-that-allows-us-to-know-622fb7379087
/ By the way, the manual audits have to be robust and conducted publicly to qualify as "evidence-based."
