I came across a masterpost about Oprah’s long vendetta against Michael Jackson so I thought I’d share some of it here as a thread for those who aren’t aware of the way she’s poorly treated him for decades.
On the 10th February 1993, Michael had his first interview on TV after a 14 year hiatus. The interview special with Oprah bought in 90 million viewers, becoming the most watched in history, and even won the TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials.
Side note: his first interview in 14 years, and she asks him disrespectful questions like “are you a virgin?” and challenged his skin condition. This was before the accusations, to me she seemed to have already had some kind of vendetta against him.
The allegations came not long after this interview. Oprah saw what she achieved with the Michael Jackson special and has taken it upon herself to degrade him in any which way since. There are also times when she praised him, when it fit her story she’d say what she wanted.
The day after “Living With Michael Jackson” aired in 2003, Oprah changed her schedule to talk about MJ. She said “this show is not going to be about Michael Jackson but did you all see the documentary yesterday?” Of course, she and her audience talked about MJ the entire show
During the show, ignoring “innocent until proven guilty”, she turned to the camera and directed a personal message to MJ, saying “If you were my brother, I would say to you that it’s not appropriate to have kids in your bed.” This was after the rebuttal, but she knew what sells.
Not forgetting that Oprah had a slumber party with young girls at her house for a show. This was after she had said “she would never put herself in a vulnerable situation like Michael Jackson had done with kids”. So, in her mind it’s ok to share her bed and play but not for MJ
Cut to 2005. As Randy Jackson has stated, during jury deliberations, she had a show about pedophilia which apparently slowed down the deliberation process as one of the jurors was a big Oprah fan.
She also had a show about unrelated men who share intimate relationships with one another (a deep closeness, no sex). One of the men said that he often shared a bed with his friends (again, no sex) and Winfrey laughed and said “You’re sounding like Michael Jackson.”
On an episode about Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Oprah stated (after pointing out that she interviewed Jackson before his “sexual abuse problems”) that before the interview, MJ was insistent on controlling the editing.
Of course, Winfrey was also insistent upon controlling the editing and wasn’t going to give way to Jackson. While going through childhood photos, she said MJ kept hiding his face and saying “Oh, I’m so ugly.”
Oprah said she didn’t know if he was serious or if it was a tactic to try and get her to relinquish control of the editing. She showed a photo of MJ at 14, stating that she thought he looked “fine this way”. She went on to compare a professional photo of 14 y/o to a tabloid photo
(followed by sound of disgust from her audience) she proceeded to say he must have BDD. In another Body Dysmorphic Disorder episode, she had spoke about a woman who had been diagnosed and was obsessed with cosmetic surgery - she had over a dozen procedures done to her body.
In her video segment, the woman said she liked MJ’s smaller nose and various other body parts of other celebrities. Then she went on to talk about all her procedures how she achieved the look she admired. Not to mention the regular visits for botox injections.
After her video segment, Oprah zeroed in on her admiration of MJ’s nose. “You like Michael Jackson’s nose?!” Winfrey asked incredulously. She didn’t mention anyone else.
Another episode of her show dealt with show business parents. One father said he admired the Jacksons and wished for his entertainer children to be just like them. Oprah looked applled and turned to her her sidekick therapist “Dr. Robin”.
Dr Robin then told how wrong he was for feeling this way, because “one of the Jacksons is obviously struggling” and he shouldn’t want his children to end up like that.
She also chastised MJ when Jon Stewart was on her show talking about him “dancing” on top of the SUV. Stewart called him an idiot while she said that she heard–not confirmed–that Jackson compared himself to Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela which she thought that was wrong.
She didn’t state where she heard it, yet she was talking about the Jesse Jackson interview that she obviously didn’t bother to listening to otherwise she would have known that wasn’t what he was doing.
She’s also said “I don’t do tributes to people who abuse children!” which she still proclaims he did to this day, but just after his passing, she said she regretted not trying to be his friend instead of judging him according to rumour.
She discussed him as if he was an idol of hers, with people who were still suffering his passing such as: W. Houston, C. Dion, L. Minnelli, K. Ortega, his mother, his siblings, even his children, his nieces and his nephews. She did another “TV special” with ex-wife Lisa Presley.
She even went on to re-air her 1993 interview just weeks after his burial, not forgetting to remind the audience multiple times that “this was before the allegations!” as if to remind them that she’d have never spent time with him before. Changing her opinion as and when it fits.
Despite the truth of the allegations being revealed since then, she was content letting her viewers think he was a criminal. She narrated the show mostly focusing on herself (her feelings, her hair) instead of celebrating his life, career & the interview that gave so much success
Oprah couldn’t stand MJ even after he helped provide the largest viewing audience she’d ever had in 1993. Her best friend, Gayle King, even slandered him on the day of his memorial on her radio show.
When asked about the memorial, Oprah said she didn’t want to go because her and MJ weren’t friends. In the same sentence she says “we’ll never know the truth” [about the allegations]. This was 2009. The truth was out there, Michael was vindicated not long before, she ignored it
Not only did Oprah do the special with the grieving family, she did a special with his ex wife who was still coming to terms with his passing. There were 2 molestation cases discussed in the same week as the LMP show which made it pretty obvious where she stands in judging MJ.
The show biography was “the parallels between Michael and her famous father, Elvis Presley“ What this may have meant was: “Michael was a drug addict and that’s why he died!” which also wasn’t the case. But she’s always been hellbent on making him look like something he wasn’t.
Beyond the continuous degrading comments from Oprah about Michael, and the disrespect she showed grilling his grieving family about his passing in multiple interviews, she still wasn’t satisfied with her efforts.
Now in 2019, while celebrating her birthday in DAVID GEFFEN’s yacht, with David himself and her buddy Gayle King, she ate cake and watched Leaving Neverland. A “documentary” built on lies of two perjurers, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who claim Michael abused them.
Not only that, she invited said perjurers, the director and real abuse victims to a 7 hour showing where they watched the documentary and questioned Wade Robson, James Safechuck and Dan Reed after.
This is yet to air, but reports are saying she finds them credible. Oprah herself is sexual abuse survivor who is enabling these liars, but has nothing to say about her friends Harvey Weinstein (80 accusers) & her friend David Geffen, who erases every claim before it can surface
Considering she has clearly never spent time researching what went on to prove his innocence, or the accusers intentions, I find it shocking that she continues to talk about the claims, loud and proud, as facts. Oprah is a sellout and an opportunist.
