If I were teaching a class on propaganda I would definitely use this column by @JacksonDiehl. It's not crude Trumpian propaganda, but smoother Ivy League propaganda for people who need more sophisticated lies to live with themselves. https://wapo.st/2G0o7w7
Here's one way @JacksonDiehl misleads without formally "lying." US troops were at the very least *involved* in the 2004 coup in Haiti, which is part of Latin America. The US also supported coups in Venezuela (2002, unsuccessful) and Honduras (2009). https://wapo.st/2G0o7w7
Yes, as @JacksonDiehl says, the US hasn't staged a full-fledged invasion in Latin America in 30 years. So what? 24 years passed between our invasions of the Dominican Republic & Panama. In between we intervened in Bolivia, Guatemala, El Salvador, Chile, Nicaragua, Honduras, etc.
It's not surprising that @JacksonDiehl has a degree in English from Yale. That means he's had some of the best cultural and technical training available on how to use precise language to mislead readers without "lying." He knows exactly what he's doing. http://wapo.st/2G0o7w7
