While watching the Ted Bundy Tapes on Netflix, I felt disgusted as I listened to the narrative that Bundy was some Machiavellian charmer who was smarter than everyone around him. Bundy benefited from being a conventionally attractive white man in a society that reveres them. Nothing about him was spectacular. He got poor scores on the LSATs & stopped going to class when he was in law school.
Also, Bundy didn't lure women in with his charm. He literally tricked them by pretending to have a broken arm & needing help or impersonating a police officer. He snuck up on them at night when no one was around or broke into their homes while they were SLEEPING & attacked.
Bundy didn't evade capture so long because he was some genius. It was the 1970s & authorities did not have the DNA technology we have now. There was also little to no communication between police jurisdictions. Bundy was sloppy and stupid — which is why he was eventually caught!
When he was sentencing Bundy to DEATH, the judge said: “It’s a tragedy to see such a total waste, I think, of humanity that I have experienced in this court. You’re a bright young man. You’d have made a good lawyer. I’d have loved to have you practice in front of me." WHAT?????
Bundy was convicted of BRUTALLY BEATING AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTING two young women to death while they slept, yet the judge was upset that Bundy wasted his "potential." Newsflash, Bundy never had any potential.
It speaks to how much the criminal justice system values the "potential" of white men over the lives of women or literally anyone else. Remember how Brock Turner got only 3 months in jail after being convicted of raping a woman behind a dumpster bc jail would ruin his life???
I'm going to end this rant saying: Ted Bundy is a myth. He was a lowlife piece of garbage. And he shouldn't be portrayed as some chiseled, dashing, sexpot. It's disrespectful to his victims and their families. Their potential was stolen from them.
And to all the misogynist trolls in my mentions, you will be swiftly blocked with no reply from me.
