27 Sept 2000: 33 years after it was made, censors lift the ban on a film adaptation of James Joyce’s epic novel Ulysses. The 1967 film version of the book was directed by Joseph Strick. Starring Milo O'Shea as Bloom, it was nominated for @TheAcademy for Best Adapted Screenplay!

#Otd 1904: Irish author #JamesJoyce met the love of his life, Nora Barnacle, his future muse & wife. She was born in #Galway workhouse, worked as porteress & laundress, then as chambermaid in Dublin. 1st date was 16 June (Joyce put it in his novel Ulysses) now known as Bloomsday!

#Otd 1929: Some think 1st official #Bloomsday held. Joyce was guest of honour at dinner party held at Les Vaux de Cernay, a village near Versailles, France. Samuel Beckett there & needed to pee so much he was abandoned on the outskirts of Paris! But there is 1924 reference to it.
#Otd 1931: James Joyce & Nora Barnacle married in London, after being together for 25 years! Joyce 49 & Nora 47. Had 2 grown up children, Giorgio & Lucia (right in 📷). Tried to keep it secret (applied for licence 2 days before civil ceremony, full name, no birthplace/profession)
