Kenyans be warned. These Quick Loan applications in the Kenyan market are serving two purposes.. Giving you soft loans and stealing user data. They are far from a virus as you give them permission to access you sms, call log, contact list, gallery (why?), microphone etc...
iPhones are the most secure mobile phones for a reason. Unlike Android, Apple scrutinises every application on its store and doesn't allow ANY apps to access your sms. That's why iPhones have no money lending apps or even Safaricoms M-Ledger. Stick to Mshwari if you must borrow.
Those using Chinese brands such as Tecno and Huawei, You have more reason to be concerned over data privacy which is partly due to bloatware.
OKASH, which under their ToS is allowed to contact a defaulters next of kin https://twitter.com/PeggyMMwanza/status/1081589258018795520?s=19, also requires you to first give them access to your photos, media and files. Why? Is this Instagram? OKASH is the definition of Bad Business Ethics.
Access Requirements.
Reputable apps (Tala & Branch) vs OKASH.
Notice Tala and Branch ask for reasonable permissions while OKASH requests for questionable access immediately after installation of application.
