I am saddened I cannot accurately capture this incredibly lavish shutter piece, which is all demonicly erotic swirling reds. It's like Blake's red dragon paintings. Sadly, it needs to be night for the places to be closed after all.
I got so lost searching through Olympic City for street art, I walked back up the same street for a third time only to find more gems on now closed businesses.
Of course I find more dragons literally seconds after tweeting that, and now I'm sad they're split between two posts.
This piece of Hong Kong alley art is incredible. It's formed by literally gouging into the concrete under a flaking painted wall. It's astonishing in person.
Down some very dark alleys, some familiar faces, plus a T-Rex in high heels threatening the Hong Kong skyline.
Under the rules of the thread, the shutters on this kindergarten definitely count. Kind of into chibi Jesus tbh.
Sai Ying Pun. These shutters were posted upthread, but now in much better quality. Bonus street art of a hair... scorpion?
Sai Ying Pun. Someone is painting lifesize cats. Also, be the gay fish jockey you want to see in the world.
Second Street, in Sai Ying Pun, is a goldmine for shutter art. There's one more I want to get, but it's teasingly only halfway down as they refuse to close and go home for the night.
I want to believe the artist was told “make sure people know I really love fish” and they just ran with it.

The #LunarNewYear is a great time to find more HK shutter art as everyone has taken the day off. These in Sham Shui Po.
My only criteria for this thread now is it needs to be hand painted street art. This mural deserved a closer look. It’s magnificent.
Oh, just a giant monkey, four floors high, hanging off the side of a building. Once you’ve seen one you feel like you’ve seen them all.
Cafe Animoji, Hollywood Rd. Uses not just the shutter, but the entire shopfront, with some gorgeously painted critters.
In a little side alley, Lok Hing Lane, two nice pieces of graffiti face off. E.T. Mother Theresa versus Graffiti Rat.
TST seems mostly absent shutter art. All the posh places cheat, they have photos printed and stuck on. Did find this absolute BEEZER featuring Street Fighter pixel art though.
The shutters in TST are mostly empty, or rubbish gang tag stuff. The alleyways had a little bit of good art though.

It’s at least 50ft long, so a quick video to try to give more context.
Tsuen Wan enters the competition with this stunning fox I spotted from an elevated walkway, and went 20 minutes out of my way to reach.
This Tsuen Wan alley is right next to the fox shutter art, and wraps around three sides of the building. 2/2
An art-filled walkthrough of a Tsuen Wan alleyway, from back road to main street.
Tsuen Wan housing estate art. The “Hong Kong blocked in by a sewage system” mural is a bit heavy-handed on the metaphors.
A new piece freshly painted by @DanKitchener. Brought to my attention by guest correspondent @temporaryhermit https://twitter.com/dankitchener/status/1098495950304174081?s=21
Sai Ying Pun MTR, a station I used daily for several years, has a surprise hidden in exit B. Huge painted three dimensional street scenes full of superb local detail.
There’s so much detail. I’m just glad I wasn’t in a rush and had time to stop and savour them on the way to work.
Final selection of Sai Ying Pun MTR panels. Very serendipitous discovery early on a Saturday in a station I used to know well.
The 3-D effect of the moulding really brought them to life. Beautiful, tactile, public art installation.

A Wan Chai market stall being closed up. When I returned to see it finally assembled the cat was already caged.
I thought there was no big shutter art in Wan Chai, but this evening’s walk proved me wrong with this huge piece.
I turned my head to accidentally find in an alleyway, off a quiet Wan Chai side road, another magnificent (and massive) @DanKitchener mural.
The smashing new @DanKitchener mural I stumbled upon is very well hidden, and almost impossible to photograph, so here’s a video to provide more context.
Huge corner piece in Mongkok, that triple length shutter is probably the single biggest bit of art on a movable shop cover I’ve found to date.
Two new shutters on my midnight walk north to Mongkok, and a nice spraypaint alleyway piece which has a lovely 3D neon effect.
Neglected to post this last night, but even managed to find a piece of shutter art at TST Star Ferry terminal.
Heading home, I found a newly closed shop in Gough Street featuring cow glove puppets. Also some old and new wall art (some of which is really showing its age).
A find by special guest correspondent, and bagpipe fondler, @HighlandPaddyHK https://twitter.com/highlandpaddyhk/status/1123169024269905920?s=21
In Tin Hau, this splendid cat. Found by special correspondent @gregorhunter
Shutters two and three are already posted upthread, but didn’t catch the Mario art before. Update your records accordingly.
Two shutters in a geometric design I’ve seen only in this area behind Prince Edward, and a large piece found in a dark alleyway nearby.
Tai Kok Tsui rendered a bunch of new finds late last night. The Argyle St piece may be a repeat, the thread is too long to check easily now.

A 2am find in the depths of Yau Tong. Will need to revisit in daylight. Also a magnificent graffiti pig on Kwun Tung Promenade.
These are all along the side of a highway, I would never have stumbled across them in any other circumstances. This night walk is paying off.
Absolutely stunning addition to the thread found at 4am in Tak Ku Ling Road. Magnificent corner piece commemorating the planes that used to swoop in low on the way to the old Kai Tak airport.
“Wise fwom your gwave” street art thread, because I need to add this huge find at the south end of Portland Street.
(This thread is so long it broke, so if you’re new scroll all the way up from here then read down again.)

Video to show the scale of these art pieces. Big “is this a butterfly?” meme potential from the one on the left.
A trio of previously undiscovered painted stalls for my HK street art thread just one alley west. I’m still delighted that I have so much more left to discover.
What it lacks in heart, compared to the small shutter pieces, it compensates for in bulk.
I'm going to add this to my epic Hong Kong street art thread. I think the threading may be broken, but scroll up from this tweet, all the way up. It's a glimpse of life when the city isn't wreathed in tear gas. https://twitter.com/hongkonghermit/status/1265657182000787457?s=21 https://twitter.com/HongKongHermit/status/1265657182000787457
Some back alley street art I found on July 28th last year. I'm a bit late posting them because 20 minutes after this the cops spent 4 and a half hours tear gassing us.
The Bruce Lee mural seemed especially appropriate. Be Water.

Three late night finds in Mongkok, including a shutter from a #YellowEconomicCircle shop.

And for new (old) content, I just rediscovered this 2015 Sai Wan photo. I don't even know if this still exists on that wall, will have to go and recheck some day.
As that 2015 art piece was confirmed lost to time, I went back to my photos from the same day and found more Hong Kong street art that (in at least one case) I haven't seen since.
This is an essential read, a profile of the artist Cath Love two tweets up (and in other pics in this thread). I've seen her character "Jelliboo" in alleyways all across Central. https://twitter.com/asiaarttours/status/1300378811188432897?s=21 https://twitter.com/asiaarttours/status/1300378811188432897
Outside Causeway Bay MTR, this lovely decorated apartment building that looks down on a little market street.
This HK Ballet art installation in Wan Chai MTR station is lowkey epic. A giant frieze of ballerinas doing ballerina things, against a photo backdrop of the streets above the station.
That was on the lower platforms. There is a second, smaller HK Ballet installation on the upper level.
Gorgeous corner piece at the junctions of Anchor and Elm. (All the parallel streets in this part of Kowloon are named after trees.)
Supplemental ballet piece at Wan Chai MTR that I missed previously.
Tonight, I stumbled into Art Lane in Sai Ying Pun. There are several interconnected alleyways full of huge building art, only some of which I featured before.
One of the biggest building murals in Hong Kong. There’s roadworks in the street so difficult to get an angle to show the Bruce Lee mural peeking in from behind.
Very detailed brushwork on this one building, which gave the impression of being tattooed almost. Video walkthrough coming in follow-up tweets.
Nice tram and skyline piece, plus some bonus non-art alleyway pics that I just think look good. My thread, my rules.
Even the adjacent building site hoardings have been painted. These don’t photograph well, but a selection is included for completeness.

On the walk home, found this stylish piece on the Mars bar.
Bonus alleyway graffiti hiding away in Central.

Two newer pieces facing off against each other just off Wellington Street. On the right, a homage to Hong Kong’s past under a giant LED billboard of Hong Kong present.
