Just to clarify, as this sentiment is all over my feed:

A) Britain hasn't been self sufficient in food for centuries.
B) The last time we tried, we had to use land grabs & child labour.
C) We ate tinned whale & powdered eggs.

All this nostalgia-laden rhetoric when it comes to 'grow your own' is so damaging to how the public understands food production. (Much of it lifted from wartime propaganda posters.)

The historic reality is in stark contrast to sunlit images of vintage glamour.
Here’s the tricky thing with nostalgia for an idealised past.
