Some Laamb (Senegalese Wrestling) 2018 highlights. Laamb essentially translates as #Wrestling in the language of the Wolof people, and is the most widely spoken in Senegal.

#Laamb is a mix of wrestling and bare knuckle boxing.
In Senegal, #Laamb is a bigger sport than soccer.

This first match has a lot of feeling out and took a long time to get going. The referee actually warned both for passivity earlier. Fortunately the warning is enough to get both to engage.
The #Laamb fighter in Gold shoots for a takedown, secures a bodylock, attempts to lift his opponent but then opts for an inside trip.

The match is over after the first successful throw that puts the back on the mat (a 'flying fall' in #wrestling).
The fighter in gold celebrates his victory. Thousands turn out in a sports stadium to watch #Laamb.
Next match, the #Laamb fighter in gold I believe called Zorro vs the fighter in black called Eau Chaude which translates as 'Hot Water' in French.
Eau Chaude deflects a strike from Zorro and drives Zorro out of bounds as he tries to grab a Single Leg takedown. #Laamb
Zorro fakes a level change a tags Eau Chaude with a looping hand strike. #Laamb
Zorro attempts a single leg takedown, but is reversed by Eau Chaude. You are allowed to grab the belt and the straps worn in #Laamb.
Percussion and singing is a big part of the atmosphere at #Laamb events, with music performed during matches.
The crowd is having a good time, as more fans turn out to watch #Laamb.
The #Laamb fighter in black shorts with white belt tries to throw the fighter in grey shorts and orange belt, but the latter's underhook allows him to control and counter enough to take the back of his opponent.

The bout is awarded to him for this move.
I believe this is the #Laamb main event. It follows a dreadfully boring match which I just watched end in I think a disqualification for passivity (that wasn't worth GIFing one bit).
Lac feints, flicks a jab and tries to grab both of Modou's legs, but is easily pulled up into a wide clinch. #Laamb
Some more use of the jab to set up a shot at the legs and waist. #Laamb
It's now Modou's turn to try and take Lac down. lac stays standing and the exchange punches to the head and body from clinch. #Laamb
Some more short exchanges. Lac's punches are getting through and causing Modou to back up and go out of bounds. #Laamb
Judging by the crowd size, and the athletics track, this appears to be the main staidum in Senegal - Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor - which has a capacity of 60,000.

I would conservatively estimate there were 30,000 in attendance. #Laamb
Some exciting exchanges between Modou and Lac, with Lac being the much shorter fighter looking to get inside of Modou's reach.

The referee breaks the clinch as they get close to out of bounds. Some gamesmanship from Modou afterwards. #Laamb
Part of the same exchange between Lac (white trunks) and Modou (black trunks) from a different angle. #Laamb
Both #Laamb wrestlers are slightly slowing down, but have been fighting for over 30 minutes so far. Lac seems to be the aggressor while Modou is playing defensive and looking to counter.

The only break they get is if the fight goes out of bounds, and the breather is brief.
After 40 minutes of fighting, time is called on the match and the referee's decision favours Lac.

Modou seems to protest, but I agree Lac was the more aggressive fighter and did more offensively. #Laamb
There's a great mini documentary featuring former UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez visiting Senegal to experience #Laamb, produced by the Olympic channel.
That's the end of this thread. Thanks for reading and watching. 😊
