Thread: Let's Talk about #evolution for a minute. I have come up with an analogy that I hope makes one of the most prominent creationist tropes easier to deal with. Consider the image below. Let's say this represents speciation from cat to dog to horse...
I have seen this used to ask the question point to the exact spot that green turns to blue. Of course, the creationist will say but Red is still only red and blue is still just blue etc. Well, here is the fun part, what is really in that image?....
All that is really in that image is combinations of colors that make up the colors we see with our eyes. We don't see those combinations, of course, we just see the top layer. It is the same way when we look at a dog, for instance. we don't see the combination of DNA..,
That makes up our impression of a dog. When we see purple, we don't see the combination of red and blue (which will change depending on the shade of purple we see). I'm taking a long time to get here but agree that colors are all made up of three bases. R, B, Y.
Well, surprise, surprise, all of the organisms on this planet are made up of DNA and the bases of A (adenine), C (cytosine), G (guanine), T (thymine). Different combinations of those DNA strands are the colors, if you will, of life as we perceive it
So when we talk about evolution, and a creationist wants to see a cat give birth to a dog (or some such nonsense) please understand that just like the color palette it's all color and just different mixtures that make up the cat and the dog.
Summing up A never changes to B. There is no B there are only variances of A.
all living things are simply variances of the same DNA it is only our eyes that deceive us. I hope this made sense. I am just rattling it off and would love some questions and rebuttals.
peace
Mike
