I put the term "Messianic Jews" in scare quotes because it is misleading to most people who don't know their story. They emerged from Charismatic Christianity in the 1960s as an effort to bring Jews to Christ, and still are explicit about that project.

"Messianic Jews" do some Jewish ritual practice but they focus on the same soteriology as Christians: salvation through faith in Jesus.
They generally call themselves Jews, but most Jews AND Christians regard them as Christian because of the theology.

Seeing Pence embrace Messianic Judaism as a demonstration of his opposition to antisemitism gives me the Cold Spooky because it communicates that Jews will be JUST FINE in the society he wants to build ... if they become conversos.

This flimsy theatre of opposition to antisemitism from Pence and Moore and others is directed at Americans who do not recognize the para-fascist qualities of Trumpism because they think that fascism simply equals Jews in concentration camps.

If Pence's idea of signaling opposition to antisemitism is to bring onstage someone whose mission is to bring Jews to Christ, then I submit that Pence's antisemitism runs deep enough that he cannot even be bothered to fake it otherwise for an hour when he really needs to.
