On #TeachersDay, let's revisit some great teachers found in Hindu scriptures. They belonged to different Yugas but relationships with their (great) students through stories inspire us till date.

RT 🔂 this tweet so that your followers too may read about some famous teachers. 1/x
Let's talk about Guru Brihaspati first. He's the Guru of Devas and has guided them through numerous wars against the Asuras. When it came to knowing the secret of Sanjivani from Shukracharya through which he resurrected demons, he sent his own son to him for this purpose. 2/x
Devguru Brihaspati is given a place in group of celestial bodies which governs life of humans and he carries a bow whose string is the basic order of Dharma in this world. His contribution in ensuring the possession of Swarga Lok with Devas is commensurable. 3/x
Discussion of Guru Brihaspati is incomplete if his counterpart, Daityaguru Shukracharya isn't mentioned. He was the tactician and Guru of the Asuras. While Devas were immortal after drinking Amrit, Asuras and Daityas suffered immense fatalities at the hand of Devas in wars. 4/x
But to the rescue of Daityas and Asuras came their mentor Guru Shukracharya with his secret knowledge of Sanjivani through which he resurrected all slain warriors. Guru Brihaspati and Devas felt helpless & as such, they planned to send their Guru's son Kacha to fetch secret. 5/x
Long story cut short, there rose a condition where Daityaguru accidentally consumed his dear student Kacha with Madira and if he resurrected Kacha, he couldn't survive. He decided to act as a teacher first and taught the much coveted secret of Sanjivani to his opponent's son. 6/x
He taught the secret, died resurrecting Kacha who resurrectrd his Guru, his father's only opponent. After this, Guru Shukra forbade all the Brahmins ftom consuming Madira so that they may not commit faults like he had done. This shows exemplary Guru-Shishya relationship. 7/x
Now let's discuss a Brahmin who holds an axe on his hand - Parshuram who is one of the seven immortals in Hindu scriptures. He was the teacher of the three great warriors of Dwapar Yuga: Bhisma Pitamaha, Guru Drona and Karna. We all know his bane to Karna causing his death. 8/x
But what people seldom know is fact that Parshuram had trained his disciple Gangaputra Bhisma so well that even he himself couldn't defeat him in an intense direct confrontation at Kurukshetra much before Mahabharat which resulted due to Amba urging for justice from Parshuram 9/x
Mahabharat and teacher when stated together remind us of only one person: Guru Drona. His Gurubhai Pitamaha Bhishma got him appointed as warfare teacher of Kauravas and Pandavas. Gradually Arjuna became his favorite pupil and he taught him every secret and formation of war. 10/x
Drona could realize that Arjuna was a calm warrior and his own son Ashwatthama couldn't be classified as one. It is why he taught the complete art of invoking and taking back Brahmastra to Arjun, he taught only half procedure to his son, that too on his extreme urging. 11/x
Only Arjuna stood up to save him from the jaws of deceptive crocodile. Drona demanded a chained Drupad as his Guru Dakshina. Kauravas took army of Hastinapur but returned defeated and empty handed while Pandavas brought Drupad, chiefly aided by his favourite student, Arjuna. 12/x
An informal but great Guru in Dwapar yuga was none other than Lord Krishna himself who not only guided the Pandavas in Mahabharat war and helped Dharma prevail but even before war had begun, he gave great teaching of Gita to his student cum friend Arjuna who refused to fight.13/x
Kripacharya, who was also the teacher of the princes of Hastinapur is one of the seven immortals and is the foremost Rishi of Kali Yuga. He relentlessly demoralized Kauravas and helped Pandavas knowing that they stood for Dharma. His sister Kripi was married to Guru Drona. 14/x
Let's go back in time to Treta Yuga and see some of its fabulous teachers. Vashishtha, one of the Saptarishis, was the Guru of Ram and his brothers. He offered a discourse to Rama and answered his questions on universe known to the world as Yog Vashishtha. 15/x
But Maharishi Vashishtha's greater role lies in transforming a Kshatriya named Vishwa Rath into a great sage Vishwamitra. Vishwa Rath wanted the Nandini cow but faced heavy defeat at the hands of Vashishtha. He conducted severe penance and gradually invented Gayatri Mantra. 16/x
Mother Gayatri became so pleased with Vishwa Rath and named him Vishwa Mitra (friend of the world). Vishwamitra trained Lord Rama and his brothers. He gave Ram Chandra the knowledge of great celestial weapons. Later on, he also became teacher of Luv and Kush, Ram's sons. 17/x
Lastly mentioning Dadoji Konddev, Guru of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who couldn't be defeated by the mighty Mughals despite repeated attempts and established a powerful Maratha empire. Dadoji made him a skilled warrior & moulded his character into a person known to world. 18/x
I have forgotten to mention that to givw Guru Dakshina to his teacher Guru Sandipani, Lord Krishna rescued his abducted son from Patala Loka when his Guru had lost all hopes.

I hope you enjoyed this series of famous Gurus and disciples. Happy Teacher's Day once again. 19/19
