Ongoing thread of things I hope to teach my children:

1/ Don’t ever be a victim. You may be victimized, but identifying as a victim is always a choice.

By identifying as a victim you cede your responsibility, and with it, the intrinsic meaning of existence.
2/ Impressing others is a trap.

Outside of your close inner circle you are nothing but an “extra” in the personal narrative of others’ lives.

Their “likes” and compliments are meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Work only to impress yourself.
3/ Food nourishes your body and soul

Never take lightly what you put into your body. Always be sure it brings energy and life.

You cannot “out think” the effects of poor diet on your mind and emotions.

When in doubt, skip a meal, you’ll survive.
4/ Don’t borrow from tomorrow

Life is a zero sum game. There is always a trade off, with interest.

Only spend money you actually have.

Only use energy earned from proper rest.

Substances “pull” energy from from your future self to today, you will pay for it.
5/ Do not worry, and focus on good things, always.

Listen to Paul here, kids. Save this clip and refer to it often.
6/ Synchronicity

When life isn’t numbed by vices and hedonistic pursuit, you begin to see little signs marking the path.

Coincidences, “right place, right time”, etc.

Things begin to align in incredible ways.
7/ Do the work first.

True enjoyment of leisure activity is correlated with the focus and attention given to the day’s work beforehand.

An old man once told me, “nothing tastes better than a cold beer after mowing the lawn on a hot day.”
8/ Move on from your mistakes quickly

Nothing will crush you faster than ruminating over your errors

We all screw up, really bigly sometimes

I guarantee you that nothing is to be gained or repaired by feeling sorry for yourself

Learn and move on.
9/ Rise to challenges

When you were very small I was “anxious” about many things.

Finally, I saw a doctor and he sat me down and said, “you’re fine. You’ve got massive responsibilities for the first time in your life. Quit being a pussy and take care of them.”

It worked.
10/ Time is short

Learn to use it carefully.

It does not renew.

Thing less of the future and more of today.

Don't "wait til next time" to try things.

Ask that girl out.

Spend time with your parents ;)

Treasure your siblings.
11/ Take action

Procrastination will destroy your dream one day at a time.

Action, any action, sets in motion sequences of events so complex we can only gasp at their beauty.

Don’t be reckless, but act deliberately and without hesitation, then enjoy the ride.
12/ Avoid politics until you’re at least 25.

You don’t need an opinion on political matters as a young adult.

You need time to mature and gain experience before you can have a strong opinion on just about anything.

Before 25 you’ll be busy with school, dating, etc. Focus.
