Also my thoughts on Lynch's Dune. It doesn't capture the breadth of Herbert's book, which remains the white whale of all the film adaptations so far. He wasn't happy with it, but he should be proud of a *lot* of it. https://twitter.com/ManohlaDargis/status/1019051189147557888
Amazing production design, some very good performances even when they're hammy. (Watch Francesca Annis react to Leto's death again. Amazing.) I even love the Toto score, dammit.
Jodorowsky's Dune would have been batshit insane and probably amazing, but decidedly Jodorowsky's Dune. i.e. not really the book, either. The Syfy miniseries had some interesting ideas but was pretty much a bloated mess.
(On the other hand, the Children of Dune miniseries was very good, with a solid narrative, a great arc for Alia, and the sizeable bonus of introducing a 23-year-old James McAvoy who immediately made you sit up and go "Who the fuck is THIS KID? He's a STAR.")
Anyway, this has been "Nicole's Thoughts on Dune Adaptations" which you didn't ask for. Enjoy. Don't fuck up, Villeneuve. ;)
