i cannot stress enough how important preparation is when it comes to transformative justice. read, learn, get trained, build your individual, pod and community capacity NOW. have conversations NOW about accountability, consent, values, safety plans, political analysis.
work done on the front-end can make all the difference. put in the time and energy into your relationships NOW, not only when crisis is high and heavy. talk to your children NOW abt consent, bodies and violence. read that article you've been putting off. take that training.
if you work in an organization or group, make a line item for transformative justice or accountability or healing. do it NOW. budget it in every year. hire folks to train your staff BEFORE something terrible happens.
bring your family, friends and folks in your life to trainings, start reading w them & having conversations with them. talk abt the things you've done that you are ashamed of or need to apologize for or take accountability for or repair. talk w the kids in your life abt this too!
practice what accountability would look like w small things that are NOT harm, violence or abuse. start small, so when bigger things happen, you're that much more prepared. do run-throughs of self-accountability, where you can put the principles of accountability into practice.
stop thinking that "community accountability" just magically happens. it is build. it is crafted. by actual people. by you. by me. by us. all of us.

we have a collective responsibility to end violence. let's act like it. <3
do not wait until the sh!t has hit the fan to take action. believe survivors the first time, not after the worst has happened or after 3, 4 survivors. take action when you see red flags. talk to your friend if they're using misogynist language BEFORE they do misogynist violence.
there is so much we can do in our everyday lives to prevent violence (and prevent the escalation of violence). things that are simple and small, but that when done consistently, have huge ripple effects and can even have generational impacts.
working to build our pods (and supporting others to do so as well) is one concrete way that we can build the conditions that could support effective community responses to (and prevention of) violence.

map your pods and encourage others to do the same! https://batjc.wordpress.com/pods-and-pod-mapping-worksheet/
teach your children how to build pods. and build your kids' pods if they are not old enough to do so yet. let them know that they can come and talk to these folks if they are harmed or harmed someone or witnessed harm (or if someone they cared about was harmed or harmed.)
