i forgot a LOT of things about indiana jones but mostly i forgot they trained a monkey to do a sieg heil https://imgur.com/gallery/l8dOczp
i feel like every time i go back and watch a spielberg movie that i grew up watching, it's just full of some real weird shit. like of course the racism but then also i forgot marion screaming "i was a child" at indy during their tense reunion which ... ... .... . .. ... . ... ...
marion, Strong Female Character and traumatized alcoholic,,,
excuse me while i pull this take out of the walk-in fridge but indiana jones might not hold up. hm
so it turns out that temple of doom offers zero explanation for why willie's character is in the movie at all. i'm not even going to get into the problems with her character which are well known. i had just forgotten there's NO plot-related reason for her to even be there
sometimes i like to go back and watch movies that i saw when i was a kid, just because i enjoy the experience of being angry about what my past self learned, i guess
i'll also point out that marion is barely a person either. the reason she's in raiders is to serve as an object, ofc. but every single time she's in trouble, she shrieks "indy"...even if he's not within shouting distance. why is that her impulse? she's lived on her own for ages.
idk why my dad showed me these but took his sweet damn time showing me star wars. come on, dad
temple of doom is racist and it's soooo deeply unfunny that it's kind of miraculous to me that there's a third indiana jones at all. i'm sort of heartened that it got mixed reviews at the time. even in the 80s ppl were like "this is no raiders." guess i'll tag these #MIDIanajones
i was going to keep tweeting these but after watching the first three and then watching crystal skull, my molten fire take is that... in the context of watching the first three... crystal skull is... not... that bad... actually. like. in the context of this franchise. it's on par
i mostly watched these because i remembered watching the first and third ones a lot as a kid and i thought maybe the nostalgia goggles would allow me to find some merit in them, even unfounded, but boy howdy did that not happen at all
my childhood nostalgia for star wars, especially a new hope, remains woefully intact though. and my tweets about that were way more fun. read those instead of this boring thread probably https://twitter.com/MIDImyers/status/817913964675866624
