STORY OF KRISHNA JI BRINGING HIS GURU'S SON ALIVE FROM YUMLOK AND IMPORTANCE OF ANKPAAD TIRTH.

The importance of Ujjaini and Shipra river is well known. But why is it also associated with Balram and Krishna.
It is said that whoever visits this place will never see the face of Yamlok.

After defeating Kansa and Chanur, Krishna and Balram annointed Ugrasen as the King of Yaduvansh, both the brothers were sent to study Ujjaini under the tutelage of Sandipani.
There they were taught the scriptures, archery and other things in just sixty four days. Guru Sandipani guessed that there was something divine in these two teenagers. When their training period ended both the brother's requested their Guru to name his gurudakshina.
So the guru requests them to get back his dead son who was killed and eaten by an animal in the ocean of Prabhaas kshetra. Both the brothers agree and leave.
When they reach Prabhaas, the Samudradev informs them that there is a demon named Panchanan residing inside who had taken the form of a Shark and eaten the guru's son. So they both kill the demon and take out the shankh they found inside but did not find the guru's son inside.
They then both go to Varunlok and borrow a Chariot. They mounted this chariot and left for southern direction towards Yamlok.

Their entry proved a boon to all the people facing punishment at Yamlok.
They all left the Narak since their sins were destroyed by a glimpse of both the brothers. The worried Yamdoots informed Yamraj of all these happenings. An angry Yamraj waged a war on both brothers but was on the verge of being defeated. So he throws his Kaaldand on them.
But it is skillfully caught by Balram. When he is about to throw it Back towards Yamraj, Brahma ji comes and stops this war. He requests Balram not to do this as there was never a person of his stature who had the opportunity of carrying the Bhagwan in his arm.
He also reminds Balram that Yam was created for a specific purpose.

Then Brahma requests Krishna to pardon Yamraj. Krishna says that he had come here just to take away his guru's son whom he had promised as a part of gurudakshina. So Brahma reprimands Yamraj.
So Yamraj returns back the guru's son alive. It is that time that Krishna blesses the tirth of Ankpaad and says from today whoever visits this place will never see the face of Yamlok.

Sandipani was happy to get his son back.
So the people of Ujjaini rejoiced and visited the five important places in their precinct.
First they bathed in Mandakini to have a darshan of Balram and Krishna. Then they went to Shankhodwar tirth after a dip. Then they bathed in the kunds and had a darshan of Govind.
Next they the visited the Chakri and Shankhi bhagwan's twin legs tirtha's. Then they went to have a darshan of Vishwaroop. Then after having a bath in the kunds they again visited Krishna, Balram and Chakridev. After bathing in Shipra they went to have a darshan of Keshav.
They all went to Vaikunth after death.
