“All the stories should be respected”
Including the ‘settlers’ who perpetuated massacres? Incl the invaders who openly advocated that our people be killed & used as fertiliser for farming our stolen lands? Incl the people who ordered the arsenic & spread smallpox? Really?

Of course he wants those stories respected, that’s the foundation of the ‘Australia’ he advocates for. That’s what he sees as being celebrated in January 26th because for him & many of his peers in politics & media they’re the direct beneficiaries & descendants of those stories.
This is why Indigenous peoples, histories & culture are so consistently belittled & demeaned by these people. They tried erasure, they tried genocide, they tried assimilation, but they failed. We’re still here, a reminder of their illegitimate gain.
At the end of the day, the only stories this gov respect are that of white cis het men, that’s why all the landmarks & regions are named after them, that’s why the statues, that’s why the fight every time there’s any challenge to the often misleading narrative around them.
If you’d like to get a brief understanding of the men this nation idolises & idealises, I go over it in my TEDx talk
